Staff Sgt Alfred Moss (1868-1952) was a prominent bodybuilder, strongman and gymnast, who was a well known figure in the British Army during the late 19th century. He primarily served in the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars regiment, and went on to win the British Army Gymnastics Competition in 1900. Following his time in the military, Moss went on to work as a physical instructor, a career which he continued into his late 60s. Notably, he was a highly regarded competitor at Bernarr Macfadden’s 1903 Perfectly Developed Man Competition, and made it through the contest’s opening rounds. However, he was later disqualified for having tattoos. Moss later published several books on physical culture, including this ebook.
